The Faculty of Journalism is abuzz with anticipation as students and faculty prepare to celebrate International Women’s Day this weekend. Daria Skvartsova and Angelina Dontsova, both third-year students specializing in international journalism, are engaging in a conversation about their beloved Moms. They are conducting interviews with fellow students to discover heartfelt and original ways to honor maternal figures on this significant day.
Angelina: Hello everyone!
Daria: Hello, Angelina! March 8th is just around the corner! Do you have plans to celebrate your mother this weekend?
Angelina: Yes, sure. My mom and I are both really busy during working days; however, on March 8th, we plan to attend the theater together to watch her favorite play, ‘Romeo and Juliet.’ Following the performance, I intend to prepare a festive dinner for her at home.
Ivan: That sounds delightful, Angelina! My mom dreams of visiting a spa, but she constantly doesn’t have enough time. I have decided to present her with a gift certificate, allowing her the opportunity to unwind. In addition, I invited her to dinner at a restaurant to spend the evening in a cozy atmosphere.
Daria: Cool! Kalina, have you decided yet how you will decorate the family photo book that you wanted to give?
Kalina: I plan to include small notes to accompany each photograph, reminiscing about our cherished moments together. I will also purchase her favorite flowers—roses.
Angelina: Really touching, Kalina!
Nastya: If I may share, I’m going to surprise my mom with breakfast in bed. In the morning, I’ll make her favorite pancakes topped with berries and freshly squeezed juice. After breakfast, we will enjoy a stroll around the city to savor the delightful spring day. I believe this gesture will bring immense joy to my mother.
Daria: Nice! What are your moms like?
A woman who is ready to work long hours…
Vasilina Kozlova: My mom works hard all day long, even outside of work hours. She works with disabled children. Mom is a very valuable employee at work, so she is often asked for help or assigned some important tasks. Nevertheless, she concurrently manages household responsibilities, such as cleaning and tending to our garden.
Daria Shishko: Despite the challenges she encounters, my mother continually strives for personal and professional growth. I am fortunate to have her in my life; she consistently provides support and respite during difficult times.
Angelina: Daria, does your mom have time to rest?
Daria Shishko: At times, I ponder how she balances work with her responsibilities to herself, her role as a wife, and as a mother. I try my best to please her with gifts. After all, she also pleases me and, as she always says, ‘I had little in my childhood, but I want you to have everything you need.
A woman who is a protector and keeper of family traditions…
Daria: Do you think your mother is the keeper of the hearth?
Dana Gadas: My mom is the heart of the family. She cares about preserving family recipes and often spends time in the kitchen cooking dishes that she fills with love and value. Thanks to her warmth, Mom creates a cozy and comfortable atmosphere.
Angelina: Amazing, Dana! Ulyana, what insights do you have about your mum?
Ulyana Kukhareva: My mother is the protector of our family traditions, passing down her wisdom and experiences accumulated over the years. In her hands lie treasured recipes for holiday meals and cherished stories shared around our family table. Her home radiates warmth and comfort.
A modern woman who is pretty and who keeps to a healthy lifestyle…
Daria: Does your mom have any beauty and youth secrets?
Darya Zakabluk: My mom has perfect facial features. She cares about her health and inner harmony. Mom prefers fresh food and avoids sugar and processed foods, realizing that beauty begins with proper nutrition, and physical activity brings her joy.
Angelina: Daria, your mom is so athletic. Victoria, how does your mother engage in maintaining her well-being?
Viktoria Zheglova: My mother, despite her age, always finds a hobby that makes her life brighter and healthier. Throughout the year, she participates in skiing, swimming, and running competitions, attending the gym several times weekly, irrespective of her fatigue from work. She diligently monitors her diet, ensuring a healthy lifestyle.
Daria: It’s wonderful! What makes your mother a role model for you?
Aleksandra Fedoniuk: My mother has obtained two degrees and serves as both a lawyer and economist, raising me single-handedly since my childhood. Isn’t that a sign of a strong woman? Mom is the most important person in my life. My main goal is to make my mom happy and give her smiles the same way she gives them to me.
A Life credo
Daria: What is the life credo that makes your mums cheerful?
Aleksandra Fedoniuk: Thanks to the immense love and support from my mum, I have grown into a strong and independent young woman. My credo is, ‘We should make our moms happy the same way they make us happy’.
Daria: Well it seems like a good thought!
Angelina: As illustrated, each of us has our unique ways of honoring our mothers on March 8th. However, one common thread binds us all – the desire to make this day special for the most important women in our lives. Happy March 8th, dear moms!
