LIVING IN BELARUS: CHINESE STUDENTS HOBBIES

English section

A fascinating, fabulous experience

There are different stages in personality formation process. We become students, we grow up, get our first job and start a family. Therefore there will be many roles in our life.  University life is really important because you get professional training and learn how to find resources which you will need later — when you have a job, family, responsibilities. It has always been fascinating, fabulous experience full of joyful and beautiful moments.

Chinese students

There’s an opinion that Chinese students are like machines who pay much attention to grades only. There are such examples like these, because many schools and universities limit the number of students. At the same time many students enjoy ample leisure time and various after-school activities. Developing hobbies is what many students choose to do.

Interest classes from early childhood

Many parents in China enroll their children in various interest training classes starting from nursery school or even earlier. In China it is common to compare the lives of children to a running track and the most important thing for many parents is not to let their children lose at the starting point. Therefore since early childhood parents choose one or even several special interest classes for their children. My parents chose interest class for me too. I still remember that I decided to attend the calligraphy class because I didn’t want to choose latin dance class. Your parents make a choice for you. Dancing, painting, singing, playing the piano are really popular because they are mainstream, and traditional. Moreover, you can benefit from them in future.

Deliberate choice of hobbies

As time goes by, many young people give up their hobbies for some reason. University  students have their own ideas and choose what they are really interested in. Some popular choices include playing basketball, football, running, street dancing, swimming, cooking and playing the guitar.

Engage in a hobby in Belarus

Many Chinese students who study at the BSU keep on having their hobbies. I am not an exception and I also continue pursuing my hobby that I will never give up. When I first came to this country, I was very curious about everything happening around. What impressed me most was that many locals like sport. You can see many people running and cycling in the streets. I go to the gym near the students dormitory three times a week. It is often overcrowded with people of different age. It looks similar to Chinese gyms. It seems that fitness is very popular in Belarus.
